2016 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Central finished the 2015 season with a disappointing 1-9 record. Last year Central finished seventh in Class 2A region three with a 1-6 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Lions have not qualified for the playoffs since the 1999 season and would love to end that streak this year. They have never won a playoff game in the school's history. The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Central Hayneville averaged scoring just 7.2 points a game. The Lions also struggled on the defensive side of the football as they found little success in stopping opposing offenses and allowed an average of 40.6 points a game. The Lions would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 3-16 record. Since 2010, the Central football program has struggled with a record of 4-53. Over the past 25 seasons, Central has not won much with a record of 44-201. Their 18.0% winning percentage ranks 55th in Class 2A and 375th in the AHSAA. The Lions have struggled on the football field with only one winning season during this time. Their last winning season was 2004. The Lions are led by head coach Martez Graham who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 1-9 record in his first season at Central. The Lions have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Graham. Coach Graham's overall record as a head football coach in one season stands at 1-9 (10.0%). The Central Lions will play in Class 2A region three during the 2016 season. It will be an uphill battle for the Lions if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region three this season. After just a single win last year, Central will be hopeful of winning a few more games this season. The Lions open the 2016 season on the road against non-region opponent Bullock County on Friday, August 26 at Bryant Foster Field. Last year the Bullock County Hornets finished with an overall record of 1-9 and in eighth place in Class 4A region two. The Hornets closed out the regular season with a loss to Notasulga by a score of 38-22. Central and Bullock County have met a total of 19 times on the football field. The Lions have a 5-14-0 record against the Hornets. They last met in 1999 with Bullock County winning by a score of 18-12. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
